san francisco, california
on january 8th, we are welcomed by over 40 volunteers eager to clean up and celebrate the final community clean up of ‘the walk’ some friends and family fly from all the way from the east coast and mid west to make the event! we all meet just outside of the Ocean Beach Café on a beautiful sunny day of clear skies.
once everyone is all signed in, noah, ben & chauncey lead the group about a quarter mile to the waterfront where they end the walk by jumping into the choppy and chilling waters of the san francisco bay! After the big dip, the clean up begins and we pick up collectively, 5000+ pieces of litter.
during our 4,200+ mile walk across the u.s., we pick up and log over 37,365 pieces of litter and organize 20 community unifying events. thank you so much to everyone who has picked up a piece of litter a day during the walk and we hope you continue to do so. we sure will. our next steps are setting up a permanent organization in northern new mexico.
special shoutout to our project partners: together sf, race to zero waste, shine on sf, san francisco public works, refuse refuse, value culture and ocean beach café.
